1949 OSCA MT4 Siluro Spider

  • Chassis Number: 1103
In 1937 the Maserati brothers sold their family company to the Adolfo Orsi Company and ten years later, they founded Officine Specializzate Costruzione Automobili - Fratelli Maserati S.p.A., or OSCA for short. Their first OSCA prototype, introduced in 1948, was the MT4 - standing for Maserati Tipo 4. Built entirely at the OSCA factory, the small cycle-fendered 'Siluro' (torpedo) sports car was powered by a beautifully engineered 1,092cc overhead-camshaft engine.

This OSCA is the second OSCA built. It was sold to one of Maserati's financiers, Paolo di Montezemolo, who raced it until the end of 1950. It was later sold back to the OSCA factory and used as a team car. A Swiss collector purchased the car in 1953 and for the next 50 years it was carefully preserved. Then, in 2000, the car was sold to Japan, where it underwent a rebuild. It has been fully restored by its current owner.
