Intermeccanica was founded in 1959 by Frank and Paula Reisner in Turin, Italy. As racing enthusiasts, the duo initially developed tuner kits for Renault, Simca, Peugeot and others. Over the years, several hybrid vehicles built using Italian coachwork with American chassis and drivetrain components. Most notable were the Apollo GT and later, the Italia Spyder. The Italia was built in-house by Intermeccanica from 1968 through 1972.
