1979 Bitter CD Coupe

Erich Bitter used the shortened chassis of the Opel Diplomat as it had been developed for the Opel Styling CD concept car. Positively received at the Frankfurt Salon, the Opel CD Concept progressed to the prototype stage by Frua before the program was eventually dropped. Former racing driver Erich Bitter, with encouragement from Opel, further developed the idea and an example was shown at the 1973 Frankfurt Salon with all mechanical elements courtesy of Opel and bodies produced by Bauer around a shortened Diplomat floorpan. Under the bonnet was a Chevrolet V8 engine displacing 327 cubic inches. The vehicle was well received and around 176 orders are believed to have been taken, leading to a production target of 200 units per year. CD production began at the end of 1973. The fuel crisis intervened, resulting in approximately 395 examples being produced. Production continued through 1979.

This car is #305 of 395 produced and was imported into the United States in 1985 by its third owner. Power is supplied by a 337 horsepower 327 CID Chevrolet V8 with coachwork by Baur of Stuttgart, Germany. The restoration was completed in the Spring of 2018.
