1960 Triumph Italia 2000 Coupe

Standard-Triumph shipped late model TR3 'rolling' chassis to Salvatore Ruffino of CESAC, Italy's Standard-Triumph Italian distributor, who, through another company, Ruffino SpA of Naples, sent them to Carrozzeria Vignale to be finished with a steel body designed by Giovanni Michelotti. 'Italian artistry and British craftsmanship have come together' was quoted. Some 329 were built, reportedly, with the whole project floundering by mid-1962. Standard-Triumph had been taken over by Leyland Motors by 1961, and the Michelotti-designed Triumph TR4 was launched a year later.

This example sold new for $4,500 in 1959. It is one of 35 Italias believed to be imported to the United States. In 2018, this Vignale-bodied coupe - number 295 - won a Gold Award at the 2018 VTR.
