The Sixth Series models of 1929 were powered by a 385 cubic-inch L-head eight-cylinder engine fitted with a single Packard carburetor and offered just over 100 horsepower. The former Six had been replaced by the Standard Eight which rested on two slightly longer wheelbase lengths. They were also joined by the more upmarket Custom and Deluxe Eight. The 640 Custom Eight and 645 Deluxe Eight lines shared the 385 CID eight and were offered a plethora of body style options.
This particular example wears a Custom-Catalog body by Dietrich. It rides on a 145.5-inch wheelbase and features the signature long rear deck treatment complete with a jaunty rumble seat. This is one of 2,061 examples of the Packard 645 Deluxe Eight produced.
This Roadster has an older restoration that has been well-maintained in good order. After its restoration, it earned awards at the Meadowbrook Concours d'Elegance in the 1990s. Accessories found on this car include a Goddess of Speed mascot, dual side-mounted spares with polished covers, and a golf-bag door. Depress Beam headlamps in chrome are supplemented by a pair of Trippe driving lamps, chrome cowl lamps, and dual C.M. Hall spot lamps.
Packard still offered wooden spoke or solid disc wheels in 1929. This example has a set of chrome wire wheels which were optional at $80 in 1929. The cockpit is trimmed in dark tan leather and there is matching carpeting and an alloy pyramid-pattern floorboard surrounding the shifter and handbrake levers. There are original gauges including the Jaeger clock in good condition.By Daniel Vaughan | Sep 2018
