1996 Porsche 911 Turbo Coupe

The new 993-generation 911 model line-up was introduced for 1995, and was the last of the air-cooled 911s. Porsche cited the 933 contained 70-80 percent new or improved content and the outgoing 964 series was 85 percent new. It retained only the front deck lid and roof from the preceding 964 model. New features included the rear suspension system named 'LSA' for Light, Stable, and Agile; it was an all-aluminum, multi-link setup that offered improved ride quality and handling. It had enlarged brakes, enhanced ABS, one-inch wider wheels, a new six-speed gearbox, and slightly updated interior.

At the March 1995 Geneva Motor Show, Porsche introduced the 993 Turbo 3.6. It featured a 959-derived all-wheel drive system with an 80/20 rear/front torque split and a 408 horsepower engine fed by twin turbochargers with twin intercoolers. Zero-to-sixty mph was accomplished in just 4.4 seconds, en route to a 180 mph top end. Porsche manufactured just 2,457 examples of the 993 Turbo, including the nine early-production 'pilot' cars built during December 1994.

This particular example is still in the care of its original owner and has been driven 33,000 miles. It was purchased new at Carlsen Porsche of Redwood City, California and was purchased with an optional radio with removable faceplate. The engine is a 3600cc Type M64/60 single overhead cam air-cooled flat- six-cylinder engine with Bosch electronic engine management and fuel injection, twin KKK K16 turbochargers and twin intercoolers. There is a six-speed manual transaxle, all-wheel drive (maximum 80/20 rear/front split), and four-wheel ventilated and cross-drilled hydraulic disc brakes.
