This 1927 Locomobile Model 6-90 Sportif is a three-owner vehicle from new. The car was special-ordered and purchased new by 'Billy' Durant's son Cliff, who was an accomplished Indianapolis 500 racing driver, team owner, aviator, and businessman who served as president of Durant Motors at the time. Around March of 1950, the car was sold by the Durant family to M.L. 'Bud' Cohn of Los Angeles, California. The car remained with Mr. Cohn until it was sold to the current owner on February 26th, 1976. Since that time, it has been shown publicly at four events with a 3rd place finish in its only competitive showing, the Los Angeles Concours d'Elegance, on June 26, 1976.
This Locomobile has a dual-windshield 'Sportif' touring body that was fitted with many special features. Power is from a 372 cubic-inch L-head six-cylinder engine offering 86 horsepower and mated to a manual transmission. The wheelbase measures 138 inches and there are two-wheel rear mechanical brakes. It is finished in Forest green paint accented by black fenders, and rides on 21-inch wood-spoke wheels with six-ply Gehrig tires. It has a flying Eagle radiator mascot, a rare special order, a stanchion-mounted spotlight, a rear luggage trunk, and twin-mounted spare tires. The interior features a clock and a fuel-pressure gauge. A fuel-level gauge is mounted on the tank. A cut-glass light provides ease of entry and exit on the passenger side of the vehicle. The rear passenger area is equipped with reading lights, an ashtray, and foot bars. It has both an electric starter and a hand-crank. The starter crank, jack, and tools still remain with the vehicle.By Daniel Vaughan | Sep 2018
