1974 Alpine A110 Navigation
Alpine was the brainchild of Dieppe garagiste's son, Jean Rédélé. In the 1950s he developed a competition version of the Renault 4CV, which was victorious that the Mille Miglia for three years running. By the late 1950s, Redele was using a sophisticated tubular steel chassis, and in 1961 he introduced the A108 Berlinette Tour de France which had a double-wishbone front suspension, Renault Dauphine swing axle rear setup, and a tubular backbone frame. Power was supplied by several Renault engines.
The Alpine A110 Berlinette was introduced in 1963. It finished 1-2-3 in the 1969 Coupe des Alpes and came in 3rd place in the Monte Carlo Rally. A year later, it finished 3rd in the Monte Carlo and won the Greek Acropolis and Tour de Corse rallies. Alpine driver Jean-Claude Andruet became the European Rally Champion. In 1971, Alpine became the official competition wing of Renault.
This particular example was completed in 1974 and its first owner was French rally driver, Bart L. Debruyne. It would remain with Mr. Debruyne in France for the next four decades. In 2013, its current owner acquired the car and continued to see active duty. In 2016 it participated in the FCRA 24 hours du Le Mans Classique before immigrating to the United States where it has continued to rally in addition to competing on the show field at events such as the Forest Grove Concours.
Currently, this car has less than 20,000 miles on the odometer. It has 5 original A110 alloy wheels, A110 factory tool kit, and factory maintenance manuals. The engine is an overhead-valve 4-cylinder unit with single twin-choke Weber carburetors and a displacement size of 1,289cc. The engine produces 95 horsepower and is mated to a four-speed manual transmission.By Daniel Vaughan | Sep 2018
