2015 Porsche 918 Weissach Package Navigation
The Porsche 918 boasts three separate powertrains including a mid-mounted 608 brake horsepower, gas-burning 4.6-liter four-cam V8, which is nearly the same amount of horsepower as the 5.7-liter V-10 that powered the Carrera GT. It features dry-sump lubrication, direct injection, variable camshaft timing (Variocam), no external ancillary drive belts, and an Iconel exhaust system that exits between the cylinder banks at the top of the engine, which Porsche calls Internal Hot Side, or IHS.
The 4.6-liter conventional powertrain is mated to a hybrid module and decoupler unit which drives the rear axle through the Porsche seven-speed PDK dual-clutch transmission. This hybrid module consists of a 154-brake horsepower AC electric motor that operates in parallel with the gas engine and also serves as the main electrical generator. An additional electric motor with 127 brake horsepower is mounted at the front axle and operates through an electric clutch. The total output produced by this cacophony of excellence is a monumental 887 horsepower and over 900 pound-feet of torque. It endows the 918 Spyder with a zero-to-sixty mph time of just over two seconds and has a top speed in excess of 200 mph.
To help keep the car planted to the ground at speed, there is a carbon-fiber rear wing and innovative aerodynamics. Since the 918 Spyder can be driven on electric power alone, it is classified as an Ultra-Low Emissions Vehicle.
This Porsche 918 Spyder is number 586. It is one of less than 300 examples that were sold to the United States market. It is believed that less than 100 of those were fitted with the Weissach package. It is finished in deep Black with a custom ordered, full leather to sample interior in Cognac, with black piping. The car is also equipped with the $84,000 optional Weissach package, and the electro-pneumatic front-end lift system. The original owner elected to add back some of the options that had been deleted by the Weissach package, including the stereo, full door panels, and air conditioning.
Upon taking delivery, much of the car was wrapped in a clear protective film, in an effort to preserve the originality and color of the vehicle. By 2018, the car has just 7,988 miles on the odometer. When it came to auction in 2021, it had covered 8,193 miles from new.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2018
