The Ferrari 250 GT California is one of the most treasured automotive creations and fewer than 100 examples were built. The 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' movie was centered around this vehicle, staring Cameron Frye (Alan Ruck) and his friend Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick). One of the lines from the movies, spoken by Cameron Frye, 'The 1961 Ferrari 250 GT California. Less than 100 were made. My father spent three years restoring this car. It is his love. It is his passion. It is his fault he didn't lock the garage....'

There were three vehicles used in the film, and they were replicas. They were Modena GT Spyder Californias built by Modena Design and Development in El Cajon, California. They had a tubular frame with a fiberglass body and powered by a Ford small-block V8 engine. The Modena was given Ferrari-style elements, such as the windshield, turn signals, grille, hood scoops, fender vents and a custom fiberglass body that was supposedly modeled after an MG, giving them a close profile to the original Ferrari. The rectangular steel-tube frame design was built by Bob Webb, who worked on Roger Penske's Zerex Special.

This particular example is one of the three cars used in the movies. It is chassis number 003 and is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 engine fed by four downdraft carburetors. The engine uses black crinkle-finished valve coves

The car was given a nine month refreshing by one of the founders of Modena Design, Neil Glassmoyer. It has a red paint exterior and a tan upholstery. There is a period-looking radio and a wooden steering wheel. There is air conditioning, AM/FM stereo, driving lights, and a five-speed transmission. There are 1,520 actual miles on the odometer.
