1989 Porsche 911 Speedster

The 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster was a one-year-only model and the spiritual successor to the iconic 356 Speedster. 823 examples were imported into the United States and were based on the G-Series 911 platform that was in production from 1974 through 1989. When Porsche made the announcement of the 911 Speedster for the 1989 model year, the cars instantly became collectible and demanded a high premium over their MSRP with the demand far outpacing the supply. The Speedster design incorporated a steeply raked and low-slung windshield along with a solid hump-style tonneau cover. Most of the Speedsters were wide-body models with front and rear fender flares sourced from the 930 Turbo. A few examples were ordered as narrow body examples.

The modern Speedsters were not minimalist cars in the style of the original 356 cars, instead they offered several important creature comforts including air conditioning, power windows, power seats, power locks and a premium audio system. Power was from a 3.2-liter horizontally opposed flat-6 engine mated to a five-speed transmission. Disc brakes were located at all four corners.

This particular example is one of 823 produced for the United States market. It is unrestored and finished in Guards Red/G1 paint code with Cashmere Beige and Black Partial Leather/LC. It has a Bosch fuel injection system, a five speed transmission with shorter gear shift lever, and Sport steering wheel with raised hub. There is a Blaupunkt Reno radio, factory air conditioning, and just 22,034 miles on its odometer.
