W.O. Bentley began work with British automaker Lagonda in the late 1930s. He created a V-12 engine that was composed of Duralumin, steel, aluminum, and phosphor-bronze. The engine was installed in a chassis that had independent front suspension and four-wheel hydraulic brakes.
Two special-bodied Lagonda V-12s finished 3rd and 4th overall (1st and 2nd in class) at Le Mans.
This particular V-12 Drophead Coupe was delivered new to James Scott and Son, of Dundee. It was finished in Gunmetal and fitted with an optional rear bumper. It remained in the United Kingdom until 1964, when it was exported to Chicago, Illinois. By 1976, it was in the ownership of Worth Simpson of Craig, Colorado. It later returned to the U.K. and in 1987, was acquired by its previous owner's father for the sum of £18,000, from the former firm of Porters of London. In the new custodianship, it was sent to Sweden, where it remained until joining its current owner's collection in 2015. In the mid-2000s it was given a 6,000-hour complete restoration which was finished in 2008.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2018
