The hand-built Aston Martin DB5 was a GT sports car with advanced engineering and superior materials, such as aluminum-alloy body panels mounted over small-diameter tubing, which was patented by Touring of Milan as Superleggera construction. The engine was also constructed from aluminum, including both the block and its twin-cam hemispherical cylinder head. The interior was outfitted with the finest Connolly leather and deep-pile Wilton carpets.
This particular example was registered as a 1966, although it was shipped to the United States on June 25th of 1965. It arrived in California and into the care of an unknown owner. In February of 1966, it was registered with H. C. Burgraff of Newport Beach. The car was sold to its current owners - James and Rosalie Sterling - in 1977 with approximately 65,000 miles on the odometer. In 1996, a restoration began and the original engine was completely rebuilt - currently it has approximately 300 miles since then. The transmission and clutch were rebuilt, the fuel pump cleaned, the carburetors were overhauled, and new exhaust manifolds and fuel tanks were fitted. The car was repainted, replacing the original Fiesta Red with Silver Birch. The interior was rebuilt and new foam was put in the seats before being covered with black leather. The door panels were re-trimmed. Prior to the project being completed, James suddenly passed, and the car was placed in storage until it emerged in early 2018. In February of 2018, it was sent to Kevin kay Restoration to recommission the car after being in storage for two decades. Over 260 hours were spent bringing the DB5 back to working condition.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2019
