2003 Alpina V8 Roadster

The low-production BMW Z8 Roadster was built in homage of the 507 styled by Count Albrecht Goetz in the late 1950s. The Z8 came equipped with the same 395 horsepower overhead-cam V8 engine and six-speed manual transmission found in the M5 sedan. Alpina took this special vehicle even further, adding their unique flare and improvements to make the impressive Z8 even more desirable and rare. Alpina first contemplated fitting the V-12 from the BMW 7-Series, but it proved too large. Instead, they opted for the E39 alloy V8 from the 540i and increased its displacement to 4.8 liters. This engine offered slightly less horsepower, but more torque. The engine was mated to BMW's five-speed Steptronic automatic transmission. The aluminum alloy body shell and chassis were produced at BMW's Dingolfing factory. The new engine with its hand-matched pistons, connecting rods, and polished ports were assembled at Buchloe. The Munich factory handled the powertrain and chassis assembly.

A total of 555 Alpina variants were built, each fitted with a specially numbered plaque located between the seats.

This particular BMW Alpina V8 Roadster is serial number 141 of the 555 produced. It is finished in black paint over a red and black leather interior. It is one of 46 examples finished in that combination for the United States market. Currently the car has 736 miles on its odometer and the factory's plastic protective film still covers the carpeting.

This BMW is equipped with a power folding top, power brakes with ABS, power steering, six-way electric seats, climate control, self-leveling Xenon headlamps, a high-end stereo with remote CD changer, navigation and satellite communication system, stability control, and a security system. It has its original factory tool roll, owner's manuals, spare keys, battery charger, first aid kit, tonneau cover, and front license plate bracket, as well as the original factory hardtop.

The BMW Alpina V8 Roadster made its debut just as production of the standard Z8 was coming to a close.
