Porsche introduced the 928 at the 1977 Geneva Motor Show. Bucking the traditional mid- or rear-mounted flat-four or even a flat-six configuration, Ferdinand Porsche eventually selected a layout the company had never before tried - a front-engined, rear-wheel drive sports car with V-8 power. The unique V-8 engine used the timing belt to drive the oil and water pumps. Initially, the 4.5-liter V8 was rated at 240 horsepower.
The Porsche 928 offered 2+2 seating, attractive styling, breathtaking performance, and supple long-distance cruising abilities. Mid-corner stability was improved with the rear-wheel steering system called the Weissach Axle.
In the 1990s, Porsche introduced the limited-run 928 GTS. They came equipped with a more powerful version of the V-8 engine, rated at 345 horsepower and displacing 5.4 liters. In the front were uprated brakes and its manual transmission was upgraded to handle the additional power from the engine.
This particular Porsche 928 GTS was completed on December 12th of 1994 and finished in Black Metallic over a Marble Grey leather interior. During its final year of production, just 77 examples were built for the United States and Canadian markets in 1995. Forty-seven of these were given the automatic transmission.
This car came factory equipped with AM/FM radio/cassette player and six-CD changer, full-power front seats with lumbar support for the driver, high-output air conditioning, Porsche crests on the wheel caps, and an electric sunroof.
This car's original owner was a doctor in Beverly Hills, California, who owned it for 21 years, during which time it was driven just over 4,000 miles. The car's next owner is the current caretaker, who has driven another 200 or so miles.
Currently, the car has 4,231 miles on its odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2019
