1909 Hudson Model 20 Navigation
The Model 20 was named in recognition of its rated power output and was priced at $900 for the three-passenger Open Roadster. They came equipped with two headlamps, a generator, side oil lamps, a toolkit, a horn, and extensive brass accents, with a split windshield and folding top optional. The engines were initially sourced from the Atlas and Buda companies.
This particular Model 20 Open Roadster was purchased in 1910 by John W. Reed of Warren, Illinois, from William J. Mauer, the authorized Hudson dealer in nearby Freeport. In 1927 (or possibly 1928), it was acquired by Mr. A.H. Burrows of Warren from Mr. Reed, and at the time, it had 3,000 indicated miles. The car was used sparingly by Mr. Burrows before being placed in storage from 1946 to 1952. When it returned to service, it was given a repaint and additional updates, including a replacement water pump, a new soft top, a replacement headlamp, and a new rear seat to replace the original, which had been stolen. Later owners included the Harrah Collection and then the Imperial Palace Collection, where it was restored and displayed until sold in 1988 to Texas collector Sam Vaughan.
In 1990, the car was acquired by the Hostetlers from Mr. Vaughan's estate. It was shown at the 2009 Shipshewana Mayfest Parade, where it earned a First in Class. It earned Feature Car status at the 2009 Hudson Homecoming, First in Class at the 2009 Krasl Art Center Concours, the Palmetto Award at the 2009 Hilton Head Concours d'Elegance, and the 2010 Ault Park Concours d'Elegance.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2019
