1990 Ruf 911 CTR C4 Navigation
The Pfaffenhausen-based company RUF was started in 1939, but it was the RUF CTR of 1987 that entered the company into the international spotlight. Nicknamed the 'Yellow Bird,' the CTR shocked the motoring press when it hit a top speed of 211 mph just weeks after the F40 had been the first car to reach the magic 200.
The standard 3.2-liter flat-six was bored out to 3,366cc, fitted with a fuel-injection system that had been developed for the 962 racers, and added a set of turbochargers and twin intercoolers. The engine was mated to a five-speed gearbox, sending the 469 horsepower to its rear wheels.
The Beddor brothers - Steve and David - ordered two Porsche 964 Carrera 4s, including chassis number 451416, and then shipped them to RUF for upgrading. The modifications cost $285,000 and included the fitted of a 550 horsepower, 3600cc RUF engine, and a six-speed manual transmission. The body was constructed of lightweight Kevlar body panels with RUF flares and finished in Polar White paint. This car was given four-wheel drive - one of only two 964 CTRs equipped as such.
This car's first owners were Steve and David Beddor, registered in their father's name. The Beddor brothers and their mother Marilyn rallied the RUF CTR C4 extensively and with much success. Notable results include a 1st-place finish at the 1994 One Lap of America and 3rd-place at Pikes Peak Hill Climb in 1995. The Beddor brothers owned two CTRs, and between them, they won seven out of nine events in the 1994/1995 season.
This car remained with the Beddor brothers until 2001 when it was sold to Steven Dix of Arizona. It was sold once more to an individual in New Jersey, and since then has remained in storage. In 2011, it received service at the cost of $6,400 before the RUF was exported to the UAE in 2014.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2019
