1929 Hudson Model R Navigation
Making its debut in January of 1929, the new-for-1929 Hudsons were offered in Series R form, resting on a 122.5-inch wheelbase. The bodies were four inches longer than before and had larger windshields of shatterproof glass and narrow A-pillars. Hudson stated that 64 improvements had been applied to Hudson models for 1929, including hydraulic-double-action shock absorbers, self-energizing brakes, and 'silenced roof construction.' Bodystyles on the Series R included sedans, convertibles, coupes, coach, and the five-passenger Phaeton. The coach and phaeton were both built at Briggs. Additional body styles include the Murphy-designed Victoria and Landau Sedan.
This particular Hudson Series R Coupe is equipped with a rumble seat and was among the first classic Hudson automobiles ever purchased by Eldon Hostetler. It was once part of the R.E. Olds Transportation Museum collection, where it was purchased by a lady for her son, who intended to convert it into a street rod. It was acquired by Eldon Hostetler in 1991, and then from 1992 to 1994, it was entrusted to the Appenzeller Brothers of Milford, Indiana, who performed a complete restoration. Upon completion, it was shown at the 1994 Meadow Brook Concours d'Elegance.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2019
