1911 Stanley Steamer Roadster

Stanley reintroduced a roadster model in 1911 with the 20-horsepower Model 72. It was their introduction to the world of Stanley's transition from wooden-bodied cars to new aluminum-bodied cars. The new bodies featured the new 'billed' front fender flare design. Over time production times were reduced (from up to two weeks per body) as metalwork transitioned from hand hammering aluminum sheet stock on wooden bucks to an automatic hammer system shaping the aluminum over moldable sand-filled leather bags. They sold new for $1,350.00 with additional cost for all five available dealer options of the day: windscreen, speedometer, headlamps, top, and bulb horn. It is the oldest known aluminum-bodied Stanley in existence. It is the oldest of the three 20-horsepower Stanley 2-Seater Roadsters which exist today, and it was the last Model 72 produced (June 27, 1911). It is the sole survivor.
