Cabriolet
The 220 Cabriolet A, introduced in 1951, retained elements of pre-war styling and still employed structural wood body framing, the last Daimler-Benz model to do so. Only 1,278 examples were produced through 1955. Mechanically, the car is far from antiquated, with its short stroke overhead cam engine and fully independent suspension. According to the car's build sheet the original purchaser specified an unusual custom color combination of DB 125 Pearl Gray with a gray/green top and red leather interior and it has been restored to those specifications. The current owner purchased the car when he returned from Vietnam in 1973 and left it in a barn in Connecticut. He returned from Texas 30 years later to find the car still in the barn and the engine still at the machine shop in New Haven, Connecticut.
