General Motors spent $600,000 and six weeks to produce this car in papal white for Pope John Paul's visit to Mexico City. He addressed over 100,000 of his followers.

Workers adjusted the roof and rear door on the driver's side, adding a set of folding steps for easier access. A white leather platform chair, which was adorned with the papal seal, could be raised about a foot with a one-horsepower compressor in the trunk of the car. The vehicle also had a U-shaped handrail in front of that chair that the pontiff could hold onto if he wished to stand.

The Pope blessed the car, but because of security concerns, he never used it. The Peterson Museum acquired the car at an auction in 2009 for $57,200.
