From 1909-1918 Fiat assembled cars in the United States in Poughkeepsie, New York. The import duty on cars at the time was about 45-percent, making good business sense avoid it by doing the assembly in the United States. The chassis was identical to the Italian version, as all parts were made in Italy. They featured a 128-inch wheelbase, a 9-liter, 75 horsepower four-cylinder engine, four-speed transmission, and shaft drive.
This particular car was fitted with a custom roadster body by the Fleetwood Metal Body Company and sold new through United States import dealer Hol-Tan in New York City in 1912. It stayed with its original owner, Robert Guggenheim, in New York until it was discovered by well-known collector Joe Murchio of Greenwood Lake, New York, in the late 1940s in unrestored condition. Joe sold the car to another well-known collector, Gene Hecht of Toms River, New Jersey, sometime in the mid-1950s and it remained in his collection until recently.
The car has been stored for many years and made its Concours debut at the 2019 Amelia Island Concours d'Elegance.
