Ferrari produced 454 examples of the GTB over the first two series, and this Ferrari 275 GTB is one of 90 second-series units built with all-aluminum coachwork and three Weber carburetors. The 275 GTB is often said to be the last truly hand-built Ferrari road car, and several aerodynamic and styling elements developed for prior racing cars reached their evolutionary peak on this model. It also marks Ferrari's final use of the Colombo-designed two-cam V12 engine, and its first use of four-wheel independent suspension and a transaxle on a road car. In 1966, this 275 GTB was delivered new to Giorgio Pivetti in the combination of Grigio Metallizzato over Blue Connolly VM 2015 hides. After four years, the car was exported to New York and sold to Domenic Fabrizio, who traded in motorcycles and often hauled bike parts in the trunk. The car later found its way to Alan Shelton of Charlotte, North Carolina, and more recently to its current owner. It was recently restored to factory specification at Motion Products.
453 examples of the original Ferrari 275 GTB were built prior to the introduction of the revised GTB/4 at the Paris Auto Show in October of 1966. A mere 205 examples were built by Carrozzeria Scaglietti with the long-nose body style. They had been introduced approximately halfway through the production run of the 275 GTB. Features included a revised front-end treatment, external trunk hinges, and a larger rear window. Most were built in steel, with 80 being delivered with lightweight aluminum coachwork.
This particular example, chassis number 08125, was completed in January of 1966. It is an alloy-bodied long-nose example that was finished in the color scheme of Argento Metallizzato (Metallic Silver) over a blue leather interior. It was sold new in 1966 to Giorgio Pivetti by M. Gastone Crepaldi S.A.S., the official dealer in Milan. It was later exported to the United States, and by 1975 it was owned by John Champney of Melrose, Massachusetts. Responding to an ad in The New York Times, New Jersey-based Ferrari enthusiast and dealer Marc Tauber flew to Massachusetts and purchased the car. Before the end of the year, Mr. Tauber had sold the Ferrari to Dan Rischenole of Rochester, New York. A short time later, it was purchased by its current caretaker. Since then, it has been used sparingly.
The car remains in original condition and retains its original matching-numbers engine with internal number 980/64. After sitting for nearly three decades, the car requires comprehensive mechanical attention prior to any road use.By Daniel Vaughan | Apr 2019
