Porsche introduced the Type 964 Carrera RS in 1991. It was a lightweight version based on the 'Carrera Cup' competition car and sold in Europe only. There was a lower-specification 'RS America' for the United States market. The Carrera RS was powered by the 3.6-liter engine with 260 horsepower and equipped with a lightened flywheel for improved response. The G50/10 five-speed transmission had closer ratios and an asymmetrical limited-slip differential. The suspension was stiffened and lowered. Zero-to-sixty mph took 5.4 seconds and top speed was achieved at 260 km/h.
The minimalistic interior was devoid of non-essential items including power steering, power windows and seats, rear seats, air conditioning, cruise control, sound deadening material, and stereo system removed. Two lightweight racing bucket seats were installed. The chassis was seam welded, the side windows were made of thinner and lighter glass, and the bonnet was made of aluminum. 17-inch Cup magnesium wheels were placed at all four corners.
This particular example was purchased new in 1992 by a German collector of Porsches. It left the factory wearing Guards Red over black interior.
