Allard was conceived as a stark open sports car with United States export in mind by Englishman and former race driver Sydney Allard. The K2 was produced from 1950 through 1952 with just 119 examples built. Like contemporary Ferraris and Maserati, Allards were most often designed as racers that could be used on the street. Despite being built in the United Kingdom, they were sent stateside to be fitted with Chrysler HEMIs or Cadillac V-8s, the most desirable performance engines of the era.
This K2, fitted with a 331 cubic-inch Cadillac V-8 engine, was purchased new in August 1951 by Max Hess, founder of Hess Bros. department store in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and titled in the name of his facilities manager, Lawrence Luckenbach. He drove the car only 5,000 miles, after which the car was parked in a barn sometime around 1965. Luckenbach passed in May 1992 and his family sold the car to its next owner who sympathetically restored it while retaining much of the car's original detail.
