1942 Willys Jeep Navigation
Willys-Overland vehicles were popular and prior to World War I, ranked second only to Ford in total production. The company, founded by John North Willys, as in 6th place in industry sales during the early 1920s, moving as high as 3rd in 1928. In the early 1940s, they turned to the production of military 'general purpose' or 'GP' vehicles, as they became known. The design was essentially sourced from a competitor, American Bantam, and also built by Ford Motor Company. However, both of these companies lacked the production capacity needed to meet the demands of war. Between 1941 and 1945, the Willys Company produced 361,339 examples of the 'Jeep.' By March of 1951, the one-millionth Jeep had been produced. The Korean War kept Jeep production running through mid-1954.
