1948 Austin Gasser Navigation
Built in 1967 at Ron Scrima's Exibition Engineering shop, this Austin had many modifications to the body style. The top was chopped by Gil Ayala at Anderson Industries. Sporting a Dave Zeuschel 1957 Hemi, the Austin was quickly disallowed in legal AA/GS competition due to numerous changes for the class. Once 'Big John' Mazmanian opted to go Nitro Funny Car racing, the Austin was sold to K.S. Pittman in 1968. Pittman campaigned it successfully and it was ultimately sold. The 'Football' was then sold to Mike Guffy who began the restoration in 2009. During the restoration it was sold to Tom Wolford where it remained until his passing. Mike Guffey then re-purchased it at auction. The 'Football' Austin stands as a testament to a time when AA/G Supercharged race cars were considered the 'Monsters of the Midway!'
