The Autozam AZ-1 is a mid-engine Kei-class Japanese sports car designed and manufactured by Mazda under its Autozam brand. They are sold only in the Japanese domestic market.
Manufactured from October 1992 to 1994, the AZ-1 was noted for its gullwing doors. Power is derived from the Suzuki-sourced 657 cubic-centimeter turbocharged engine.
Unfortunately, as the car came into production, the recession in Japan had just begun, and the car failed to sell within its target goal of 800 per month. Production of the car ended in 1994. Total production was just 4,392 cars.
