1961 Pontiac Ventura Navigation
This car is one of 176 built with the 425A option package. This includes a 348 horsepower 389 cubic-inch V8 with three two-barrel carburetors, a 10.75:1 compression ratio, and Long Branch exhaust headers. It pumps 430 ft-lbs of torque through a Borg-Warner T-10 four-speed manual transmission and a 3.90:1 'Safe-T-Track' rear end.
This car rides on the optional eight-lug wheels on a 119-inch wheelbase, weighs 3,685 pounds, and stickered for an eye-popping $3,200. Unregistered since the early 1970's, it was rescued from a field in Santa Rosa, California in 2004. The master cylinder had been removed and tossed into the trunk, but it was otherwise 100-percent complete and original including its numbers-matching drivetrain, according to the factory build sheet from Pontiac Historical Services. The original Shelltone Ivory exterior is complemented by the Coronado Red tri-color interior.
This California-built Pontiac Ventura Sport Coupe was rescued from a field in Santa Rosa, California in 2004, and had not been registered since the early 1970s. The master cylinder had been removed and tossed into the trunk, but the car was 100 percent complete and original. The factory build sheet from Pontiac Historical Services verified that it retained its original numbers matching drive train and is one of only 176 Pontiac Venturas built in 1961 with the High-Performance 425A package that included a 389 CID motor, tri-power, 4-speed T-10 Borg Warner transmission, long branch exhaust manifolds, and 3:90 Safe-T-Track rear end.
This Ventura was restored to its original factory condition by Scott Tiemann of Supercar Specialties in Portland, Michigan in 2017.
