1965 Peel Trident Navigation
The Peel P50 holds the Guinness World Record as the smallest production automobile ever made. The Peel Trident was a further development of the P50, with a slightly larger body but continued to use the P50's Zweirad Union single-cylinder engine and three-speed gearbox without reverse. (It is believed that the final six Tridents were given a 98-cc engine and automatic transmission from the Triumph Tina scooter.) The 49cc engine delivered a reported 100 mpg and an advertised top speed of 38 mph. Company literature declared that the Trident offered saloon car comfort with scooter cost.'
The single-seater (theoretically, it could accommodate two occupants) had a clear plastic dome that tilts forward to allow the driver to enter.
This Peel Trident, owned by the Lane Motor Museum, was crated and shipped to the Isle of Man in 2005 to complete a circuit of the 37.75-mile Isle of Man TT course with other Peels to celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Peels.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2017
