1938 Mercedes-Benz Type 320 Combination Coupe

The Mercedes-Benz 320 (W142) was first shown at the International Automobile and Motorcycle Exhibition in berlin in February 1937. The 320 was a development of the 290 (W18), which was built from 1933 to 1936. The new 320 had a fully-synchronized 4-speed transmission that was quite revolutionary for its time. The new car bridged the gap between Mercedes's medium-sized vehicles and its largest models, and was offered either as a bare chassis, a factory-built Cabriolet, or this variant: the Combination Coupe with a novel, removable roof. While the car can easily pass as a coupe with the roof raised, the removable hard-top suited most open-top driving enthusiasts. The last Mercedes-Benz Type 320s were built in 1942 at the Unterturkheim and Mannheim plants, bringing total production between 1937 and 1942 to 6,861 vehicles.
