1956 Chrysler 300B Special Navigation
Felice Mario Boano was an Italian coachbuilder who designed for Ferrari, Viotti, Bertone, Ghia, Farina, and Castagna. With his son Gian Paolo, he formed Carrozzerria Boano in 1954.
Fiat Chairman Gianni Agnelli decided that he wanted a powerful two-seat custom coupe and started with a 1955 Chrysler 300B drivetrain that was shortened seven inches to allow the car to appear more European in size. Agnelli instructed the stylists at Boano to create something with a classic British look and construction began in 1956.
It was delivered new to Agnelli's brother Umberto, who was then the director of Fiat France. The Chrysler Boano Coupe features a shortened chassis to better complement the 2-seater layout. The Chrysler 300B high-performance engine was combined with a PowerFlite push-button automatic transmission. It was photographed for the magazine L'Automobile in September 1957.
Upon completion, Agnelli chose not to take delivery so that he wouldn't be seen driving a foreign car. It was instead delivered to Agnelli's brother, Umberto, who was the Director of Fiat France. It was sold to a Paris resident in 1957. Advertised for sale in Retroviseur magazine in 1989, it was acquired by Massachusetts collector Michael Pomerance, who retained the car until 2006. The Ramshead Collection in Sacramento undertook a complete restoration, and its current owner acquired the car in 2017 or 2018.
