This iconic hot rod was built in the 1990s by Don Thelen of Buffalo Motors for Bob Morris. Taking as inspiration the '32 Ford Roadster built by Doane Spencer, Theelen found an original Ford Roadster body and installed a 302 cubic-inch Ford V8 engine built by Allen Jennings with gurney-Weslake heads and four downdraft Weber carburetors. The 3-piece hood and the unusual aluminum lift-off top were fabricated by Steve Davis. Allen Jennings performed much of the detail work, including the Indy-style fuel filler, the handmade dashboard and the pedals. Ron Mangus handled the green leather, and Ron Covell did some of the custom bodywork. The 'Nickel Car' derives its nickname from the liberal use of nickel-plated trim, which matches its Halibrand Bonneville-style wheels. It appeared on the cover of Rod and Custom Magazine in April 1933. After Morris sold the car, it was purchased by Hollywood personality Tim Allen, who sold it to its current owner in 2005.
