1937 Triumph Continental Sedan

The Continental was one of two new models introduced by Triumph for the 1937 model year. The Continental was very similar to the two-liter version of the Dolomite, except the Continental had a more classically shaped radiator and twin dipping headlights. It was made only in 1937, and just 26 or so were ever manufactured, with only one other currently known to wear its original-style bodywork and be in roadworthy condition.

This car was the factory-supplied model displayed at the British International Motor Exhibition, held at the Olympia Exhibition Centre in London from October 15 through 24, 1936, and still sports its original U.K. license plates, 'CON 200.' At the time, the Continental was the top of the Triumph line. The car was brought to Canada around 1970. The current owners purchased it in 2014 after it had sat untouched for 20-some years in open boat storage. All brightwork had suffered from exposure, seats were home to a colony of mice, and it required a great deal of tender loving care to return it to its former glory. The restoration was undertaken over a three-year period by the owner in his home garage. The upholstery was completed by Union Street Upholstery of Erin, and the plating by Mayfair Chroming of Toronto. The gauges were restored by Nissonger of New York, while the paint, body, and motor work were all completed by the owner himself.
