2006 Ford GT Coupe

The Ford GT began life as a concept car designed in anticipation of the automaker's centennial year. It was unveiled as an homage to the original GT40 from the 1960s. The GT is similar in outward appearance to the original, but is heavier, wider, and most importantly four inches taller. Three pre-production cars were shown to the public in 2003 during Ford's centenary celebrations, and delivery of the production version, simply called the Ford GT, began in late 2004. The GT was produced for the 2005 and 2006 model years, and was assembled in Michigan. The development process included input from Carroll Shelby, the same man who helped develop the original GT40 race car. The all-aluminum supercharged 5.4-liter V8 engine produces 550 horsepower and 500 lb-ft of torque, channeled through a Ricardo six-speed manual transmission. A total of 4,038 cars were produced. There were 343 built in the Heritage Edition trim, with a Gulf livery similar to the one worn by the 1969 Ford GT40 that triumphed at LeMans.
