1957 Messerschmitt KR200 Cabriolet

    1957 Messerschmitt KR200 Navigation
Messerschmitts and many other microcars were designed and built in post-war Europe to use a minimal amount of steel and gasoline. Steel was very scarce and gasoline was rationed in Europe after the war. The KR200 is powered by a 191cc single-cylinder Fichtel & Sachs two-stroke engine. The top speed is 62 mph, with a fuel consumption of approximately 60 to 80 mpg. The car does not have a reverse gear as such, in order to drive backward, the engine is switched off and started in reverse, technically giving the car four reverse gears.
