2016 Porsche 911 R Coupe

The 'R' in the Porsche 911 R name was in reference to renn (racing). For the original 911 R, Porsche R&D chief Ferdinand Piëch and racing mechanic Rolf Wütherich systematically stripped every ounce of unnecessary weight from its production counterpart. The resulting vehicle made its track debut in 1967, after having shed over 400 pounds. The 2016 edition of the 911 R, based on the 991.1-generation GT3 and GT3 RS, harkened back to its 1960s ancestor, with lightweight design cues, including reduced sound insulation, a sculpted magnesium roof panel, and carbon fiber fenders and hood.

The 911 R had the same naturally aspirated four-liter flat-six from the GT3 RS offering 500 horsepower and 338 lbs-ft of torque. The R added a short-throw six-speed manual gearbox and weighed just 3,021 pounds - 110 pounds lighter than the GT3 RS. Zero-to-sixty mph was accomplished in just 3.7 seconds and top speed exceeded 200 mph.

Just 991 examples of the 2016 Porsche 911 R were built worldwide. This particular example is finished in with and accented by red stripes and a Porsche logo, with a black leather interior replete with GT Silver stitching. It was on display at the 2016 Geneva Auto Show and later ordered without a radio. Its window sticker lists 33 options, including an extended-range 23.9-gallon fuel tank, single-mass flywheel with reinforced clutch, Sport Chrono package, LED headlights in black with Porsche Dynamic Light System, fire extinguisher, and a bevy of other interior leather and stitching extras for a total MSRP of $213,935.

Currently, this car has fewer than 20 miles on its odometer.
