1965 Shelby Cobra 427 Navigation
This Shelby Cobra was the fourth streetcar produced. It was delivered from the factory with the 427 cubic-inch engine backed by dual four-barrel carburetors. It was Billed to Shelby American on May 13th of 1965 and subsequently invoiced to Sexton Ford Sales Inc in Moline, Illinois. It wore a Guardsman Blue exterior with a Black interior and is believed to be one of 45 examples in this color scheme.
The original owner of CSX 3104 was Donald J. Hager of Illinois who kept it for six years before selling it to Dan Bennett, also from Illinois. Doug McClellan purchased it in 1974 and treated the car to some freshening, which soon became a 4-year long restoration. In 1979, the car was brought south to Florida. By the mid-1980s it was in the state of Georgia, before heading to Baton Rouge, LA, under the ownership of Fred Buzzell. It remained with him for several years before he passed away, at which time it was sold to Tom Kirkham. By this point in history, the car had suffered damage to its nose. Some further restoration work followed before it was listed for sale, but never sold. The car was later restored back to original specs by Legendary Motorcar Company, Ontario, Canada.
Over the past few years, it have been owned by a collector from Florida, who has shown the car at various events including the 2016 The Quail - A Motorsports Gathering.By Daniel Vaughan | Oct 2019
