This Stutz Model BB Four-Passenger Speedster was commissioned by the government of Finland and wears a coachbuilt body by Philips Custom Body Co. of Warren, Ohio. Philips would build 25 convertible coupes and closed sedans that year. This is the only known phaeton produced by Philips in 1928. Upon completion, it was sent to Finland and used as a dignitary transport vehicle and parade car until 1960. Currently, there are under 71,000 kilometers on the odometer.
The next owner was Heikki Vilamo of Finland, who acquired it in 1960 and entered it in vintage races across Finland, Sweden, and Germany from 1965-1967. It was put into storage in 1969 until it was acquired by U.S. businessman Roy Malool from the family of Vilamo in 1994. It was given complete mechanical sorting and servicing. It appears the body has never been off the frame, and the convertible top was replaced in 1965 and recently re-stretched.By Daniel Vaughan | Nov 2019
