Due to its popularity in 1965, for 1966 the Fleetwood Brougham became a separate Cadillac model rather than the previous Sixty Special option package. Now even more luxurious on a wheelbase of 133 inches compared to the longest wheelbase Cadillac offered, 150 inches in the Seventy-Five line, the Fleetwood Brougham was more costly than the previous model by about $320 and was offered with a long list of options for buyers to personalize their purchase to individual taste.
The Brougham in its second year featured a longer and lower silhouette with a vinyl roof and 'Brougham' script on the rear pillars. Buyers across the Cadillac line gave the nameplate its most successful sales year by exceeding 200,000 sold during 1966, including 13,630 Fleetwood Broughams as 1966 models, further including this one, the 8,881th built that year. Fully optioned at purchase by its original owner, this Fleetwood Brougham sold for $8,017, $1,322 above base price and more than double the list price of a Chevrolet Impala 4-door sedan.
All Cadillacs of 1966 were powered by the smooth running 340 horsepower, 429 cubic-inch V8 engine that shifted an equally smooth Turbo Hydramatic transmission giving the 4,700 lb, 4-door Fleetwood Brougham elegantly spacious traveling in high style. Its huge trunk provided storage volume for a family's luggage. Considerable reconstruction of the steel in this car was necessary, and during restoration by the current owner, bullet holes were discovered in the right rear quarter panel, their source unknown.
