1917 Chalmers Six-30 Record Speedster

This Chalmers Record Speedster remained in Chalmers' ownership until 1923 when the company ceased production after a merger with Maxwell. Its next owner was E. Lee Center, a Chalmers engineer who had been involved with the Speedster project. Mr. Center enjoyed the car enthusiastically, even driving it into a stone wall. It later came to rest in a barn on Mr. Center's property. In 1945, Henry C. Wing Jr. discovered the car, albeit in disrepair. Mr. Wing purchased the car and trailered it home, where it was kept in storage for the next three decades. In the early 1970s, Mr. Wing commissioned Hollis Simonds to restore the car to its original condition. After the work was completed, it was shown and driven for several years before being sold to Robert Valpey. It has remained with Mr. Valpey for the past three decades.
