1929 Studebaker President Eight Navigation
Studebaker introduced its first foray into the luxury car market - the President - at the 1928 New York Auto Show and would go on to set over 100 AAA-sanctioned speed records. Engineer Barney Roos increased the engine displacement to 336 cubic inches for 1929 and devised a new 'double-drop' frame. Nine body styles were offered, including the Roadster, with a fold-flat windscreen and rear-mounted spare tire.
The President Roadster was selected to pace the field of the 1929 Indianapolis 500.
This President Eight was acquired from a collector in Philadelphia in 1983 by Jim Carpenter. It was then given a restoration and resided in Mr. Carpenter's collection for the next thirty-five years. In 2018, it was sold to Robert Valpey.
