2007 McLaren SLR Navigation
Since the mid-1990s, Mercedes-Benz had been supplying McLaren with engines for their Formula 1 program, and over the following 15 years, McLaren F1 cars earned numerous victories. This led to Mercedes-Benz acquiring 40-percent of the McLaren Group, and in November of 2003, the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren was introduced. It had a front-mid-engine layout with near-perfect weight distribution. Although an unconventional layout for a supercar, it did provide a spacious trunk and cabin, which made it more practical and usable than its competition.
In 2007 Mercedes-Benz raised the bar even further with the introduction of the 722 Edition, named in honor of Stirling Moss's victory at the 1955 Mille Miglia in a 300 SLR, car number 722. Production was limited to 150 examples and approximately 25 examples were sent to North America.
Nearly every aspect of the SLR was upgraded for the 722 Edition, including horsepower, which rose from 617 to 650 bhp. Zero-to-sixty mph was accomplished in 3.6 seconds. The ride height was lowered by 10 millimeters, new 19-inch alloy wheels were developed to fit larger carbon-ceramic brake rotors, and a new carbon fiber front splitter increased front downforce by 128%. Much of the leather and aluminum trim throughout the interior was replaced with Alcantara and carbon fiber.
This particular SLR 722 Edition was ordered in Crystal Antimony Grey Metallic, a color exclusively for the 722, over black leather and Alcantara interior. It was optioned with XL driver and passenger seats and has had two California owners from new. Currently it has 3,200 miles on the odometer.By Daniel Vaughan | Dec 2019
