1959 Nash Metropolitan Navigation
The little Nash Metropolitan had enclosed front wheels, a continental spare tire in the back, and bodies that were built in England by Fisher and Ludlow. The four-cylinder engine was from Austin, which did the final assembly. Introduced in 1954, the Metropolitan was sold by Hudson and Nash dealers through 1962.
The engines were upgraded in 1956 to a 1500cc unit which offered 10 additional horsepower, now rated at 52 hp. In 1959, they received an outside trunk lid which increased the rear storage area. Additional changes included front vent windows which improved ventilation, redesigned seats with two inches of more seat travel, and larger tires. 1959 was the most successful year for this small vehicles, with 14,959 examples sold in the United States.
This particular example is finished in Autumn Yellow and is believed to be an original and unrestored example. The car was originally acquired in Knoxville, Tennessee, and around 1961 or 1962 it was purchased by a dealer, White-Allen Chevrolet in Dayton, Ohio. The car would remain in their care until it was purchased by an individual in Beavercreek, Ohio, in 1985. A year later it was sold to a friend of the current owner. Around 1989 or 1990 it entered the ownership of its current owner.
