The Jaguar C-Type is a racing sports car built by Jaguar and sold from 1951 to 1953. The 'C' stands for 'competition'. The car used the XK 120 running gear of the contemporary road-proven model but in a lightweight tubular frame designed with an aerodynamic aluminum body. Only 53 C-Types were built of which 43 were sold to private owners mostly in the United States.
The C-Type was very successful in racing most notably at Le Mans which it won twice, first in 1951 and again in 1953, where it also placed second and fourth.
This car was originally purchased by Robert McManus in 1952 and raced by him until 1954. Under subsequent ownership, the car continued to be raced for the next several years. Since the early 1970s the car resided in the collection of famed Jaguar enthusiast Walter Hill, until 2006 when it was purchased by its present owner.By Daniel Vaughan | Mar 2020
