1933 Aston Martin Le Mans Tourer

  • Chassis Number: AMD 547
This 1933 Aston Martin Le Mans was built as an Aston Martin Works' demonstrator racecar. A long and colorful racing life ensued starting with the 1933 J.C.C. High-Speed Trials at Brooklands, the 1933 R.A.C. Rally, the 1933 R.S.A.C. Scottish Rally and the 1934 R.S.A.C. Scottish Rally with J.J. Boyd-Harvey, of the 'Harvey's Bristol Cream Sherry' family behind the wheel, placing 12th out of 65. Also in 1934, the car raced in the 1934 Oxford and Cambridge International Varsity Speed Trials and also competed in the MG Car Club Rushmere Hillclimb.

In the 1950s, the car was found on a farm in Sussex and restored by Derrick Edwards, a well-known expert in pre-war Aston Martins. Charles Martin, an Aston Martin dealer, imported AMD547 to the United States in 1957 and in 1961 sold it to Charles Addams, the famed cartoonist and creator of the Addams Family. Mr. Addams competed with AMD547 in VSCCA events for nearly 30 years before selling it in 1988 to Richard Straffordton who raced the car extensively in VARAC and VSCCA events.

In 1997, the car was sold to Burton Cooperburg of Philadelphia. After 5 years of competing with AMD 547, Mr. Cooperburg retired from racing and the car was sold to its present owner.
