This 1909 Peerless Model 19 30HP Seven-Passenger Rois Des Belges Touring was offered for sale at the 2007 Sports and Classic Car Auction presented by The Worldwide Group, in Hilton Head Island, SC where its estimated value was available upon request. Bidding reached the multi-hundred thousand dollar range but was not enough to satisfy the vehicle's reserve. It was left unsold, which was sad as this was the highlight of the auction and the vehicle most everyone had come to see find a new owner. Bidding was enthusiastic with multiple parties making bids, just not enough to purchase the vehicle.
This is a very, very rare automobile in original, unrestored condition making it a welcomed entrant at any major concours for the 'historic preservation' category. It is one of only two known 1909 Peerless Model 19s, the other has been restored and its whereabouts are currently unknown.
Though this vehicle is in rather poor aesthetic condition, it is drivable. It has its original acetylene generation and tank still residing on the running boards. The engine is treated to the original Peerless carburetor, an item that is almost as rare as the automobile itself. The coachwork is the Roi des Belges style with seating for seven passengers on fixed seating and two jump seats.
In 2008, this car was brought to Monterey, California where it was offered for sale by RM Auctions at the 'Sports & Classics of Monterey' Auction. It had an estimated value of $350,000-$450,000 and was offered without reserve. A high bid of $just 170,500 including the buyer's premium was enough to secure new ownership. The lot was sold.By Daniel Vaughan | Jan 2009
