Porsche unveiled the new 911 GT2 RS Clubsport alongside the new 992-generation 911 at the 2018 Los Angeles Auto Show. It was the most powerful GT customer sports car Porsche has ever built and was a low-production, track-only, fully optimized racing version of the road-going 911 GT2 RS. It was a turnkey racing car for factory-backed Clubsport events and track days.
It used the engine and PDK transmission of the GT2 RS, with the drive being channeled instantly to the rear axle and controlled via steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters. The 3.8-liter, twin-turbocharged, flat six-cylinder unit delivered 700 horsepower and 740 Nm of torque. It was fitted with an onboard water spray system to cool the charge air, which was a first for a production Porsche.
Deviating from the road-going GT2 RS, the Clubsport was assembled in Porsche's dedicated motorsport facility at Flacht alongside the 911 GT3 Cup. It was given a freer-flowing, unique exhaust system and a host of improvements over the road car, among them forged suspension links on both axles and three-way adjustable dampers, allowing owners to tune the car's characteristics and handling profile to suit differing circuits and driving styles. The Clubsport was 75 lighter than the GT2 RS, weighing a mere 1,390 kg. Carbon-fiber-reinforced plastic was used for the roof, front bumpers, front bonnet, doors, tail section, and rear engine cover. It used a lightweight racing battery, the interior was devoid of non-essential materials, and there was a removable carbon racing wheel from the 911 GT3 R. There was an integrated roll cage, FIA-approved six-point safety harness for the fixed Recaro bucket seat, a Cosworth intelligent color display, and an onboard data logger.
This particular example is in factory-fresh condition and has never been used. It has two additional sets of wheels and tires, pare brake components and other spare parts. It is the 85th of 200 examples built.By Daniel Vaughan | Jun 2020
