1957 Chevrolet One-Fifty Sedan

When Chevrolet's 'small block' V8 debuted for the 1955 model year, everything changed. Racers were quick to discover the extraordinary flexibility of the new V8. Powering Chevy models 150 and Bel Air the new Chevy V8 became a favorite with racers. By 1957 the 265 162 horsepower Turbo Fire in the entry-level 150 two-door was the low-cost way to V8 power. This coupe owned by noted Porsche devotees at Gunnar Racing in Palm Beach is a homage to their family car in the year that the '57 Chevy sedan became a favorite with NASCAR racers winning a record-setting 49 Grand National 'Cup' races. The small-block was also the engine that claimed the streets from Ford's venerable and antiquated flathead V8 that had survived since the 1930s. Street racers loved the new Chevy and made it their own. The small-block design grew, prospered, and endured into the 21st Century in stock cars, sprint cars, off-road racers, drag racing, and especially in decades of clandestine street racing.
