Cadillac was the first manufacturer to standardize electric starting and lighting in 1912 thereby revolutionizing the automobile industry. No more hand cranking to start cars! Left-hand drive and the first V-8 engine appeared in 1915. Cadillac ads proclaimed the marque, 'Standard of the World,' and the company rightfully established itself as one of the industry's leading luxury car manufacturers. Cadillac produced and sold 13,995 vehicles in 1912. The limited production Torpedo Tourer is smaller than Cadillac's volume car, the Model 30, but costs $1,900 compared to the Model 30 which was $1,800. All 1912 Cadillacs were painted Cadillac Blue, except for the Torpedo which could be specially ordered in Battleship Gray.
This is one of 13,995 Cadillacs built in 1912. Cadillacs were first produced with electric ignition and electric lighting in 1912. The Torpedo-bodied Cadillac was offered only in Battleship Gray. The original cost was $1,900.
It is powered by a 286 Cubic inch four-cylinder engine producing 32 horsepower with a three-speed transmission. The top speed was 50 miles per hour.
This car was found totally disassembled in a storage building in 2014 and underwent a six-year restoration. This is one of three 1912 Cadillac Torpedos known to exist.
